Conveyor belts must be joined into a loop through splices before use, so the splice quality directly affects the conveyor belt. Hot vulcanization is the most commonly used and effective method for conveyor belt splicing. The conveyor belt splice has the advantages of high strength, long service life, stability and reliability, suitable for a wide range of applications.

Today we will see here what the steps are and how we will have to go for a good splicing of conveyor belt

1. Material Inspection and Conveyor Belt Cleaning

Before using the uncured cover rubber and skim rubber, it needs to check the materials first. Use gasoline or toluene on the surface of these hot splicing materials. If the rubber bond to the oil, it can be used.   And it is necessary to choose hot splicing materials consistent with the conveyor belt so that the spliced belt can maintain consistent overall performance and achieve better use results.

At now, the conveyor belt needs to be processed into stepped layers, and then each layered part is polished with an angle grinder which is fixed with the tungsten steel buff disc. After sanding, use a cleaning solution to deep clean up the layered part to remove the conveyor belt surface impurities and oil stains.

2. Paint hot vulcanizing solution to the splicing materials &conveyor layers

Brushed the hot vulcanized solution on the conveyor layer, as well as the adhesive surface of hot splicing materials.  Spread the uncured skim rubber evenly on each conveyor layer, ensuring that it is distributed uniformly.

3, Fit the Uncured cover rubber on the conveyor spliced part

Attach the brushed uncured cover rubber to the reserved conveyor spliced part, making the entire conveyor to be a flat plane.  (It is recommended to cut two lines on the uncured cover rubber with a knife to avoid bulging)

4, Hot Vulcanizing Process

Use the vulcanizer to heat up and pressurize. When the heating plate is heated for 15-25 minutes, press it once to ensure that the splice is under sufficient pressure. When the temperature reaches 80℃, the pressure should reach 1.0-2.0 MPa, stop the pressure now and continue to heat up. When the temperature reaches 145℃, start to maintain a constant temperature of 145℃ to 150℃ for 45 minutes. At last stop heating and cool naturally to room temperature.

5, Inspection after Hot Vulcanizing

(1) Overall condition of the spliced joint: whether there are bubbles, lack of rubber, or other problems.
(2) If there are a few bubbles or lack of rubber on the splice surface,  it needs to repair again
(3) If the center line deviation is greater than 25mm for a length of 10m, or there are many bubbles in the splice, it may affect the belt convey.  it has to re-hot splice then.

6, Trial Run of the belt after Hot Vulcanizing:

Clean the site first.  Operators stay in a safe place away from the belt during the test, and the test time is not less than 30 minutes. operate should pay attention to the running condition of the conveyor belt and take appropriate actions. If all ok, resumed partial work, but the full-load convey is better to begin 24 hours later after hot vulcanizing.
