During the process of a hot vulcanized conveyor belt, the following key materials are required: hot vulcanizing adhesive, Uncured Skim rubber, and Uncured Cover rubber. Here is an introduction to their characteristics and selection criteria:

Hot Vulcanizing Adhesive:

  • Main Function: Used for making seamless hot vulcanized joints in steel cord conveyor belts and nylon canvas belts.
  • Characteristics: Non-flammable.
  • Quality Requirements: Should have high bonding strength and good heat resistance.
  • Purpose: To increase the strength of the belt’s vulcanized splices, enhance the bonding force between the uncured skim rubber and the belt core, and ensure the strength of the joint area.

Uncured Skim Rubber:

uncured intermediate rubber

  • It is also Known As Uncured Intermediate rubber, Tie Gum, or hot vulcanizing intermediate rubber.
  • Main Function: Used in the intermediate layers of hot vulcanized spices to serve as a filler. Its primary function is to enhance the strength of the spliced area, ensuring bonding effect and tensile performance.
  • Typical Uses: Commonly used near the nylon layer or steel cord parts of the conveyor belt.
  • Thickness Options: 0.8mm, 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, etc., to meet different working environment and process needs.
  • Appearance: Black rubber, red plastic film.
  • Quality Requirements: Should have good elasticity and strength to meet the high-tension demands of steel cord conveyor belts.
  • Thickness Selection: Choose the appropriate thickness based on the specifications and grade of the conveyor belt to ensure the splice’s strength and durability.
  • Application Range: Suitable for hot vulcanized joints and repairs of NN nylon, EP polyester, common canvas, and steel cord conveyor belts.
  • Usage: Used in combination with uncured cover rubber and hot vulcanizing solution.
  • Purpose: After vulcanization, it uniformly enhances the bonding strength of the joint area, thus improving the strength of the conveyor belt joint.

Uncured Cover Rubber:

uncured cover rubber

  • It is also Known As Cover rubber, uncured cover rubber, or hot vulcanizing cover rubber.
  • Main Function: Used at the sealing joints of hot vulcanized splices to serve as a cover. Its primary function is to improve the tensile and wear resistance of the conveyor belt, protecting the belt core from external environmental corrosion and wear.
  • Typical Uses: Laid on the upper and lower surfaces of the belt splice.
  • Thickness Options: 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, etc., to meet different work requirements and environmental conditions.
  • Appearance: Black rubber, green plastic film.
  • Main Uses: Used for hot vulcanized splices and seams of NN nylon, EP polyester, common canvas, and steel cord conveyor belts.
  • Characteristics: After vulcanization, it has excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
  • Quality Requirements: Should have good wear resistance and tear resistance.
  • Thickness Selection: Choose the appropriate thickness based on the conveyor belt’s specifications and working environment to ensure the joint’s wear resistance.
  • Usage: Needs to be used in combination with uncured core rubber and hot vulcanizing adhesive.
  • Purpose: After vulcanization, it uniformly enhances the surface wear resistance of the splice area, improving the joint’s wear resistance and tear resistance.

These three materials play a crucial role in the hot vulcanized operation of conveyor belts, enhancing the conveyor belt splice strength, bonding force, and wear resistance.

Operating Steps:

  1. Conveyor Layer Peeling: Use a layering hook and pliers to peel the belt and steel cord. Ensure each layer is evenly peeled without damaging the steel cord and rubber layer.
  2. Grinding Treatment: Grind the splice area to remove surface impurities and oxidation layers. Use a cleaning prime to deep clean the steel cord and conveyor belt surface, ensuring no oil stains or impurities.
  3. Applying Hot Vulcanizing Adhesive: Evenly apply the hot vulcanizing adhesive to the bonding areas of the steel cord, skim rubber, and cover rubber. Ensure even application with no missed spots.
  4. Laying Uncured Skim Rubber and Cover Rubber: Lay the skim rubber on the steel cord surface, ensuring it is flat and free of bubbles. Lay the cover rubber on the skim rubber’s outer surface, determining the number of layers based on the belt’s specifications and requirements.
  5. Installing the Vulcanizer: Check if the Vulcanizer is installed correctly and the wiring connections are accurate. Connect the temperature sensor and necessary metal thermometers.
  6. Vulcanization Process: Turn on the vulcanizer control switch to start heating vulcanization. Set and monitor the vulcanization time and temperature to ensure even vulcanization.
  7. Cooling Treatment: After the vulcanization timer ends and the vulcanization switch trips automatically, start cooling. Connect the cooling water pipe and inject water into the heating plate for cooling. After the temperature drops below 80°C, release the pressure and remove the vulcanization plate.
  8. Inspection and Finishing: Check if the joint vulcanization quality meets the requirements and if there are any defects.
  9. Immediate Repair and Finishing: Trim the edges to be neat and smooth, with no defects or excess rubber. If a bulge is found, puncture it with an awl to prevent it from expanding.

Through the detailed material selection and process steps above, the hot vulcanized splices of steel cord conveyor belts can be ensured to achieve the required strength and durability, meeting the demands of high-tension, long-distance, high-capacity, and high-speed material transportation.
